Gold Beach, Oregon

Residents of Gold Beach, Oregon filed their first official complaint of pesticide poisoning with the Oregon Department of Forestry and Oregon Department of Agriculture in 2007. Since 2007, the community has been affected by pesticide drift and spray due to aerial application numerous times. The Oregonian has found that state agencies – including the Department of Forestry and the Department of Agriculture among others – dismissed the health concerns of residents or mismanaged investigations into the issue. All complaints filed by the Citizens of Gold Beach are in response to applications done by the same timber company, Crook Timberlands. After a spray in 2013 in which 20 residents of Gold Beach filed complaints to the state, the pilot responsible for the overhead spray had his license suspended for a year and was fined $10,000.
